Laptop keyboard innerworkings

Recently I've noticed the 'i' key on my laptop was stiff and barely typed! So, like any normal person would at 12:30 am, I ripped off the entirety of the key. Well, not really. But what I noticed was:

  • there were 2 clips inside

  • there was a bit of dust

  • there were 4 tag like clips which the clips slotted into

I tinkered around with it until finally giving in and finding a video with the answer.

  1. clean out any dust inside

  2. take both of the clips and slot the smaller one into the bigger one

  3. carefully line them up with the tag clips

  4. push down until each side clicks

  5. push on the key

  6. clack clack clack!

you saved my life
